Raising Thoroughbreds in Northern California
Windsor Thoroughbreds is a small, privately owned farm, located in Wilton
California. The farm specializes in breeding, sales prep, and lay-ups of
Thoroughbreds, bred to race. Some horses are boarded for clients, but most
are owned by the farm owners. Young horses are sold at auction
as yearling racing prospects, although some, usually fillies are raced for the
farm. Horses, including racing prospects, and retired campaigners are
available for purchase at the farm. Windsor Thoroughbreds always attempts
to find appropriate 2nd careers for it's race horses. Fillies who excel at
the track or have exceptional lineage may join the farm's broodmare band. Other
fillies and geldings receive "cool off" time, and retraining as sport or pleasure horses.
Farm Management
Owned and managed by Rich and Laura Soutar, the farm is home to 20-35
Thoroughbreds, depending on the time of year. When not on the farm, mares are
out for breeding, and horses of racing age are competing at California tracks.
Windsor Thoroughbreds Racing
Racing venues include Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, and the Northern
California Fairs, during the summer. Horses with proven capabilities may
also be sent to Southern California to compete at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita,
or Del Mar.
